Need Some Rest?

According to the CDC, “50 to 70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders or deprivation.” You can read the study here.

I am actually one of them.  I take sleeping pills every night to go to sleep.  But that is something I learned how to deal with when I learned that I had Fibromyalgia, and that sleep disorders go hand and hand with that diagnosis.

But I also learned that my body needed a lot more rest than other people did.  And I didn’t know how to do that.  I still have problems listening to my body and taking the time to rest when I need it.

Did you know we can be the same way with our souls?  With our spiritual need to rest? Well we can. We can easily remember that we need sleep at night, but forget to nurture our souls and our spirits.

[Tweet “This is why God calls us to take a Sabbath weekly. Not as a law to follow, but as a time for us to rejuvenate ourselves.”]

It is a time to relax the way we naturally find comforting to our souls, and a time to connect with God in a way that invites Him to restore us so that we may be filled to the measure with His mercy and grace.  A time to take the load off.

Jesus invites us to come unto Him.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Matthew 11:28-30 The Message

So I leave you today with three questions…

How do/will you find rest for your body?

How do/will you find rest for your soul?

How do/will you find rest for your spirit?

Leave a comment below with your answer because I love to hear from you!
