One of our favorite verses often quoted by many is, “And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 KJV
However, the quote is only half of what Jesus said.
The Whole Truth
He actually said,
“If you abide in my word then you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make
you free.” John 8:32 KJV
So Jesus was saying, live in my word and it will free you. The word of God has life. The abundant life we all crave. It is Spirit and life to us.
When we read scripture we are not reading a book without power. His word is powerful.
By His command we are to live in it. To read it, ask for understanding of it, and dwell in it. Walking out what we have learned in our own lives. standing on its promises until we are in heaven our home.
Bound
We’ve seen many movies where someone is held hostage. Once the enemy turns their back the person reaches for their knife and cuts the ropes that held them.
When we live in the Word, depositing it in our hearts and minds it works to free us. it is a weapon no one can take from us. Without it we are at the mercy of our enemy.
Yet my brothers and sisters, our enemy is not merciful.
Just as the enemy would find the hostage missing and take off after them, ours continually chases us down to place us in bondage again and again.
Only by resting in the power of the word of God that we have stored in our hearts will we get set free and stay free continually.
We wouldn’t normally surrender to our adversary. We would use everything at our disposal to flee danger and captivity. Yet we often overlook the necessity of scripture.
Are you bound up somewhere in your soul? Do you feel powerless against the ties that bind? There is a sword of truth that WILL set YOU free.
Our Work
Beloved run, don’t walk, to the Word of God and let it do the work of setting you free. It is a refuge of truth for us. A haven of light and life.
Our work is to believe according to John 6:29.
The Word’s work is to make us free. It is the living expression of God.
“In the very beginning God was already there. And before his face was his Living Expression. And this “Living Expression” was with God, yet fully God. They were together–face to face, in the very beginning. And through his creative inspiration This “Living Expression” made all things, for nothing has existence apart from him! Life came into being because of him, for his life is light for all humanity.
John 1:1-4 TPT
P.S. This is a quote from a new Bible translation I have the privilege to read and review. It is called The Passion Translation. It gives new perspective to the reader regarding the revealing of understanding we seek in God’s Word.
I highly recommend it. Especially for children teens, and young adults. Adults can use it as a parallel to other translations and see its value. Each edition reads like a chapter book which makes it both easy to carry and devotional ready.
My sincerest thanks to Broad Street Publishing for sharing it with me.
Blessings Beloved,
