Storms and Foundations
We have all seen the destruction of the major storms on towns and cities this year that can leave us speechless and surrendering to God in prayer. When we see the aftermath of the storms there is something that remains, however. The foundations of the buildings are still there.
If you are going to take a stand for what you believe you must have a firm foundation. The storms of life will blow and they all offer some form of destruction. Are you ready to take a stand for what you believe? The foundation of your faith that will be remaining is secure in Jesus if you have your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.
Cornerstone as Anchor
19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22
Believing in Christ as our Savior is the first stone laid in our foundation of faith. He is the cornerstone.
16 So this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
the one who relies on it
will never be stricken with panic. Isaiah 28:16
Those who live in a trailer park do not have foundations on which to rebuild when havoc is wreaked by the storms. Nothing is left that is anchored to the ground. Panic ensues when we are left with nothing.
Building your foundation of faith begins with the cornerstone that anchors it to the ground, and then builds around it with faith. Relying on the promises of God which prevents panic in a storm.
Have you ever been stripped to bare faith in Christ alone? When you are face to face with the floor and can only cry out, “Jesus loves me this I know.” Life will do that. I know I have been there. My theology degree doesn’t matter then, my wealth doesn’t matter then, who I know doesn’t matter then. In those moments it is all Jesus. That is all I know. In order to get back up and rebuild what was damaged, I build a firm foundation with faith around Him as the cornerstone.
Will You Be Standing
Faith comes by hearing. What I have studied in the Word of God has to be applied to stand back up. Preparing yourself with the instruction of the Word of God has a payoff in battle. It is the foundation on which to stand. When you are struck to your knees by life, you can only stand on what you know to be true.
Are you prepared with the gospel of peace to stand after the storms of life have come? You may be in the clear now, but they will come. When the storm clouds clear will you be standing, Beloved? <3Melinda
