Strengthening the Front Lines of the Mind{Two: The Truth is God is Only Good}

Our focus is on the weapons that win the war of the mind, and we focused our attention on the knowledge of  the victory we have through the blood of Jesus on day one of this series.  Click on the link to see that post.

ONLY GOOD

Today we will focus on the understanding of who God is, and His goodness.  Ask yourself the following:

Do I believe in the goodness of God? Your answer doesn’t change His goodness, but has an impact on your receipt of His goodness.

We must know that God is ONLY good all the time, or the deceiver will attempt to overthrow our thoughts with accusations of God performing evil.

God is Light, and in Him is no darkness at all.  1 John 1:5

God is Light 1 John 1 5

The belt of truth is part of the armor God has given us in Ephesians 6. The truth is that if we plan to overcome evil with good, then good cannot be muddled with evil. Many Christians are blaming God for evil when evil is destroyed in the presence of God.  When Jesus Himself said that He came for the express purpose of destroying the works of the enemy.  1 John 3:8

BLAMING GOD

An example of this is blaming God for a cancer diagnosis. Some people reason that God put sickness on them to teach them something.  No! God is a Healer not a killer. Satan is a liar who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. God came to give life. John 10:10. Why pray for healing if God caused sickness and willed it?  When Jesus walked the earth He healed everyone who came to Him for it.  We have not been promised that evil wouldn’t happen to us, but we have been promised the goodness of God through it and above it.

God doesn’t cause evil, due to the fall of man in the garden when Adam gave over dominion on the earth to Satan through sin, evil has been permitted. But God brings good out of what is intended for evil. Romans 8:28

The enemy had evil plans for Joseph and famine for Israel, but God…Genesis 50:20.

TIGHTENING THE BELT

Here is a list of scriptures on God’s goodness that can tighten our belts of truth. Fill in the blanks of your faith with His goodness:

8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

Psalms 34:8 (NKJV)

1 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Psalms 107:1 (NKJV)

19 Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men! 20 You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.

Psalms 31:19-20 (NKJV)
5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They shall fear the Lord and His goodness in the latter days.

Hosea 3:5 (NKJV)

CREATOR OF GOOD

Everything God creates is good.  We see that in Genesis 1.  From the very beginning He expresses His goodness.  Consider this:

19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”

Ex 33:19-20 (NKJV)

DESTRUCTIVE OF EVIL

We can’t live in His presence because of our sinful nature.   That is why we must come to faith in Christ who was sinless and gave His life for us that we may boldly approach God for grace.  John G. Lake said “God is as destructive of evil as He is creative of good.”  Our personal “goodness” is nothing apart from God.

O my soul, you have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.”

Psalms 16:2 (NKJV)

Even Jesus said that only God is good (not to mention He was God in the flesh):

16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” 17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is,God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Matt 19:16-17 (NKJV)

Let us meditate on all the goodness of God and that only good comes from God.  Here is another Word of reflection:

16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

James 1:16-17 (NKJV)

Beloved we can expect His goodness.

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thingwill He withhold From those who walk uprightly.

Psalms 84:11 (NKJV)

So ask yourself that question again, and if you are still doubting the goodness of God keep meditating on the Words I shared with you above.  Begin to expect His goodness every day.  Beloved, Let us pray:

Father,

You are only good, but sometimes when faced with the evil world we live in and the circumstances we encounter, we doubt that. Help us to know, that we know, that we know, you are only good.  Help us to remember that like the sun not changing on a cloudy day, that your goodness doesn’t change when it is obscured by evil. Today we repent from believing you are the cause of any evil, and begin to expect your goodness. Thank you for the good and perfect gift of your goodness towards us.

In Jesus name, Amen.
