Boiling Over
Most of the time it is like a kettle of water simmering on the stove. Occasionally it whistles high-pitched distraction. Sometimes we pour ourselves a cup and slowly dip our tea bag in. We may even add some milk and sugar to take the bitter taste away.
I’m talking about fear. Fear that can be debilitating. Boiling and bubbling over all our hopes and dreams. Smothering the next step in our endeavors to live. To thrive.
Fear Clouds Faith
For many years I have been plagued by fear. Beginning in childhood, it followed me forty years to where I am now.
So much so, that if I don’t feel fear or have no worries, it seems as if I’m always waiting for the shoe to drop. That, dear folks, is fear disguised as reality.
The largest part of what we fear isn’t even real. It’s imagination gone wild about the future. Or even about the things we have no knowledge about. We can attempt to play it out in our minds over and over.
What could happen?
What could have happened?
What if?
What then?
Kaleidoscope
God has given us love, power, and a sound mind. He has told us that we are to cast down imaginations.
I picture myself holding fear in my hands like a glass telescope into what I can’t see, but rehearse in my mind.
It’s time we smash that thing. It may appear to give us a clear picture. But it is giving us false information.

So let’s trash the looking-glass. Watch the shimmer of the mirrored glass lose it’s power. Cast it down, and watch it break into pieces on the sidewalk.
You know the one on the corner of Destiny and Doubt Street.
One at a Time
Let’s take a few steps toward our destiny. Just one at a time. And whenever you find yourself beginning to feel fear or doubt, look back and see the pieces of false evidence appearing real. Smile at it because you are onto the sneaky in its sneakiness.
Instead of rehearsing fearful thoughts tell yourself this:
About face, and march on. The one thing those brave successful people are better at than me is they face fear, have a showdown, and take another step. Walk by faith and not by sight.
For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV
I’m linking up with others who walk by faith. Need another cup of encouragement?
