But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
I don’ like feeling weak. It ignites in me the passion to show my strength. Yet this fleshy response denies me of true power. Human strength is no match for that of God’s.
Paul received revelation of this truth. He learned the strength of God’s grace. When Paul worried and prayed to God to remove the thorn in the flesh, He asked God to remove it.
You would think that was the answer. That Gods strength is shown through the miraculous removal. It is, but it take more power to be sufficient.
Yet, God responded, “My grace is sufficient for you.”
Sufficient does not mean sparse. His grace is not the grace man gives.
It is abundant. It satisfies every thirst, need, soul.
Our definition of sufficient is misleading. We know it to be adequate or enough. But God’s definition is as follows:
“to be possessed of unfailing strength
to be strong, to suffice, to be enough
to defend, ward off
to be satisfied, to be contented”
-from Strongs Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, 2007
God is rich in grace. His greatest strength was the sacrifice of His Son. It acquired grace for all mankind. Enough to make us content. Every soul. Not just adequately suffice.
So how can you change your focus from adequate grace to all sufficient grace today? How can you lay down your will to be strong, lay your weakness down at God’s feet, and receive His strength today for every need?
