Sara Part One

A girl of only thirteen living in poverty with only her mother to raise her was barely able to eat.  Her mother, a prostitute in Russia, couldn’t afford to put food on the table for the family. So she had dropped out of school to work in a bread shop thinking she would be a help her mother. In this way she thought she was contributing to the well-being of her three younger siblings although she made barely enough to feed them.

Could you imagine your stomach hurting so bad from hunger, working in a bread shop all day, and returning home knowing there would be no meal waiting for you.  Aching with hunger she saw a help wanted sign in the window of a shop as she walked by.  It said that they were looking for nannies in America and that anyone who went could make $1000.00 a month.  She decided to apply in hope that she could get the job and send money back to her family in Russia.

She was nervous as she packed her bag and hated to leave her family.  She set her mind on America and the new way of life they would all have as she kissed them goodbye.  Boarding the bus she placed her passport in the man’s hand who had hired her.  She found a seat and counted four other teenagers beside herself.

She took notice as the bus came to a halt at the Chinese border.  She was supposed to be getting on a plane to America.  As they crossed the border they began to ask questions, but the men wouldn’t answer them.  She thought We’ve barely had anything to eat, I’m hungry, and when will we get to the airport? They made another stop and a Chinese man boarded the bus where he exchanged money with the man who had her passport.
