Renewing the Mind

Incredible Memory

How would you define the word incredible?
Dictionary.com defines it as:
1. so extraordinary as to seem impossible: incredible speed.
2. not credible; hard to believe; unbelievable: The plot of the book is incredible.

Ive had my Droid Incredible phone since it came out.  I love it, but it has been giving me problems with the memory ever since.  So today after an appointment to discuss trauma therapy I stopped in to see what could be done about the memory problem.
I told the clerk that I had been having issues with having to constantly adjust the memory.  She said that it was a problem that particular phone has.  She said the only way to fix it was to erase the memory.  Unfortunately the way to fix the problem for good is to get a new phone.  My contract is up so I am looking to find the best one to fit my needs.  You can bet I will be looking for one that doesn’t have memory problems and can hold a great deal of new information.
What is so significant about my trip to the wireless store is that I just left my therapists office.  For years I have been going through therapy to overcome the aftermath of childhood sexual abuse.  Most recently I am undergoing E.M.D.R. therapy.  It is for trauma victims who are stuck living today with memories of yesterday that can literally incapacitate a person unless dealt with.
I have hit another layer of incredible memory.  The kind that lies and tells you it is the truth.  The kind that tries to attack your identity.  So you see my phone isn’t the only one having memory problems.  I can’t get a new me though.  However, if I face that incredible memory with the knowledge of the truth of God’s word then my mind can be renewed.  In doing so I can be released from the traumatic day that is trying to hold my mind captive.
I can embrace the new creature in Christ that I am with the help of the Word of God which tells me my true identity is a daughter of the Most High who is dearly loved and rejoiced over.
I totally didn’t want to go to the appointment today.  I could literally feel the anxiety reaching up from the inside and I just wanted to run and hide.  The problem with that is when we fail to confront the memories that are trying to choke out the truth God wants us to know then we are really shaking our fist at God and telling him that we are more comfortable with the way things are.  That we would rather feel the fear, the anger, the frustration, the unforgiveness, and the pain than trust Him to heal us.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:2 NIV
What files are you working with that are out of date?  What memory problems are you having.  Do you have a problem forgetting the things that lie behind.  Do you struggle to receive forgiveness?  Do you struggle with your identity being what you do instead of who you are in Christ?
Trauma isn’t the only reason we need to renew our minds.  It can be as simple as our inability to grasp the truth of God’s word, and allowing it to sink down deep through the eighteen inches that part our heart and mind.
Beloved get rid of that incredible memory and replace it with the incredible word of God.  ❤ Melinda
