Switch on the Light
There have even been times when as an adult I have felt the need for light in the darkness. Times I have bumped into something in the night that made me look for the light. I switch it on and see clearly to walk in what was once darkness.
Recently I bought some night lights for our home. My girls are afraid of the dark, and I want them to feel comfortable at night. I don’t want them to be fearful. So we leave a light on for them in the hallway at night and have placed night lights in several rooms. So if they have to get up at night and go to the bathroom they can find their way there and back safely.
A Dark World
God has left us as lights in this dark world. We are the ones that carry His light. We have got to get over our fear of the dark. If we don’t travel into the dark places then there will be no light. God didn’t give us light to hide it. He gave it to us to light the way to Him. So that when people are traveling through dark places they can find their way out. But, what if we refuse to go into the darkness and light the way? What if we refuse to turn on the light?
Fear of Darkness
Jesus said that we are the light of the world that should not be hidden. Yet what do we do if we are afraid of the darkness in this world? We have to turn on the light. It is time to shine the light of the Word on the darkness that will light our way.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 NIV
If we look to the Word we are promised that the path will be illumined before our feet. If we follow Jesus who is the light then that path will grow brighter and brighter day by day.
There is a story I love that sheds light on the truth about darkness:
It is the story of a cave and the sun. The cave was used to darkness and then one day the sun invited it to come up and experience light. So the cave went up and the light was splendid as it shone. The cave was so impressed with the light, and so grateful to the sun for sharing it. The cave wanted to return the invitation to the sun by inviting it to experience darkness. So one day the sun took the cave up on the offer and went down to the cave. When the sun arrived it kindly asked, “Where is the darkness you spoke about?”
The Truth
When we carry our light into the darkness, or the light of the Word of God into the darkness it is dispelled. The light overcomes the darkness. Rejoice with me today in thanking God that no matter what dark place we are in or what dark circumstances surround us that He lights our path, and lights up the darkness. The darkness cannot be found in His light which grows brighter and brighter until the full day.
The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Proverbs 4:18 NIV
Excellent!
