Not a NASCAR Fan
I am not a NASCAR fan. Shhhh! Don’t say that too loud in the south. It is not that I don’t think it is interesting, I just don’t find watching the race on TV exciting. One reason could be because I have never been to a race. I am the same way with other sports like Hockey. I love Hockey, but I much prefer to be there instead of watching on TV. You miss too much of the action.

There are many people I know who love NASCAR. So what I have learned is that racing of any kind is a “to each their own” kind of thing. I thought this was important to address when considering running your race as a Christian. The YOUR is very important.
Get in Position
If you have every watched a track race then you know that the athletes get poised to run their race, and then while running do not look at each other to see what the others are doing. Taking time to look at them can cost you the race. No, their eyes are dead center on that finish line or the track ahead of them.
The Christian race for the crown is not a spectator sport! We are meant to be running it. There are trainers out there to glean from and others who speak, write, and sing about their journey. Instead of comparing and glaring at what others are doing we need to be focused on the track ahead of us and the finish line. Our finish line is being fully conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ, not the people in the race with us. Those not in our race are meant to be encouragers, those who show us how it is and how it is not done, while pointing us to Jesus.
If we want to be first on race day then it is important to understand WE are the one running our race! If you want to finish first on race day then it is imperative that you are focused on running your race.
Being Conformed
You are the only one who can run your race. There are no competitors in your personal race for the crown, and so comparisons can only keep you from finishing. When your eyes wander from the track ahead of you and the finish line, then you may become conformed to the world and not to Jesus.
Keep your eyes on Him the author and finisher of your faith race!
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. Hebrews 12:2 NIV
