Heart Strings, Running the Race

Running Your Race: Winning The Crown

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1 NIV

I recently watched the movie Secretariat.  It is the story of a woman who takes over her Daddy’s horse farm and race horses.  She wins a coin toss and starts training a horse she called Big Red.  She was pressed by everyone to sell the farm because of the large debt.  Instead she gives it all she has.  She gets Secretariat a new trainer, and wins some races.  Soon the marathon of horse races was at hand and she entered Big Red, also known as Secretariat, in the Kentucky Derby.  They were worried his speed was more developed
than his endurance, but they wanted a shot at the win.

The Christian life of a true believer is a marathon.  Endurance is important.  Faith is tried in the valleys between the wins on the mountain tops.  We can become so consumed with wanting to hurry to the finish that we exhaust ourselves in the beginning of the race.

Secretariat had a jockey who held the hair of his mane in the beginning of the race to slow him down.  He would set the pace for the horse so he could endure the length of the whole track.  Then in the end the jockey would let go and let that horse fly.

In training and in running the race we need to find the pace that our trainer, Jesus, sets for us so we can endure.

We need to let go of what is weighing us down.  If our hearts are heavy and burdened because we fail to go to God and leave our burdens then we will fall behind as well.  The jockey of our heart needs the reigns to lead us and keep us on track.
He knows not only the pace we can keep, but also the weight we can carry.

Penny Tweedy believed in Big Red and watched him become a Triple Crown Winner because she made sure he was well taken care of.  We too are going to be crowned winners if we allow God to take care of us, we do that by letting Him reign and lead our hearts.  No horse ever ran the race without submitting to others.  What weight are you trying to bear, and how are you pulling against the reigns? Winning is not about how fast or how far its who you are (and Whose you are)…..here is a video link…Enjoy!
