From a Chrysalis: Sanctuary After Brokenness

When all the king’s horses, and all the king’s men failed to put Humpty back together again, they were unaware they had the option of calling Jesus.

Broken is definitely what I was when I came to Jesus.  No one was able to put me back together.  Without God none of us can repair the brokenness in others.  So no matter who I went to for help, they failed.  Especially when I tried to fix my own broken self.  I would build myself up to fall apart over and over again.

Don’t get me wrong, I still have areas of my life that God is mending.  Some places however have been through their respective Chrysalis.  There has been real transformation.  The results are that my scars are stronger than the rest of my flesh, and they are hardly visible because of the beauty he has worked out of the woundedness.  It amazes me everyday how I can catch the wind of the Spirit.  No longer crawling in the ruins, but soaring to new heights where I can look down on my present circumstances, or into my future instead of the past.

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

This past weekend my husband and I went to Natural Bridge to celebrate 10 years of marriage.  An example of what God can put back together is definitely seen in the lives of two broken people who were trying desperately to fix one another with no success.

God was all over our trip.  We arrived and our room number was 316.  What love we felt going in and getting settled in the room.  Then we headed straight for the coolest part of our trip.  They have Virginia’s largest indoor butterfly garden.  I was practically skipping on the way there with excitement.  My hubbie held my hand as I practically drug him down the stairs to get there.

When we entered the garden it was breath taking.  As we arrived a woman greeted us and told us to walk slowly because the butterflies may decide to take suflight any moment and we wouldn’t want to hurt them. The humidity was high, the cedar gave off a pleasing aroma, the plants and the fruit ladened stones around the room were refreshing to see, and you could hear the fountain of water.  The atmosphere was spa-like, but the stars of the show were the butterflies.  This gorgeous garden was made just for their sanctuary.

Because you have been a part of my journey through the Chrysalis, and are probably experiencing change of your own I wanted to share the pictures of the garden.  I wanted to remind you that God has a place of Sanctuary prepared just for you and when the timing is right there will be a release.

The chrysalis window seen in this picture is where they tack them up when they arrive at their facility.  They make a dot of glue and stick the chrysalis up.  You can see them turning darker and if you are there at the right moment an escape.  We did not see one come out. but saw many that still had wet wings and were waiting for their release.  There were some that would just spontaneously wiggle.  There were some that newly emerged.  A few still had wet wings, and we even saw some released.  After the visit my husband decided that we needed to come back several times to try to catch one breaking out into new life.

We were not succesful in seeing a break out, but I did manage to get the name butterfly whisperer.  When I walked around they would flutter around me and one was so attracted it attached to my leg and had to be retrieved by the woman there.  I hope you enjoy the rest of the pictures in the slide show (you will recognize the first two), and pray you will hear from the real butterfly whisperer, Jesus, about sanctuary in your own life.  Remember He doesn’t just put us back together, He gives us a place and a purpose. ❤ Melinda
