I watched a sermon by Joseph Prince this morning. He said, “Do not judge your standing by your performance, but instead judge your performance by your standing.” God is so good and although life has recently tried to draw me into it’s tailspin, I am still standing. I love the song by Donnie McClurkin that goes, “After you’ve done all you can, just stand, and be sure.” It has been such a touching of God’s hand on my heart lately.
Christ came to give us life abundant! In John 1010 He tells us that satan comes to kill, steal, and destroy, but I came that you may have life and have it to the full. What is fullness of life? Jesus is. If you want to be full of life be full of Him. He is the word that became flesh. Be full of the Word. Be full of His promises.
Satan longs to steal from us the abundant life Christ came to give freely. So much so, that there are even voices in our churches that tell us that we are old sinners saved by grace. NOT SO! We, who have received Christ and believed in His work that He finished on the cross are not sinners. We are saints who have been freed from the bondage of sin. See Romans 6:22. We are Saints!
However, it is really easy to get entangled in the bondage of sin. Easier to become sin conscious instead of conscious of our righteousness given by faith in God. See Galatians 5:1, and 2 Corinthians 5:21. When this happens we are not standing on the Word of God. Instead we are called out of resting in the work of Christ by Satan. He is the father of lies. They originated with him and he wants to continue to deceive us.
So as believers we are to labor not at becoming righteous, but to enter into the rest that causes refreshing. What is the refreshing? The refreshing is standing on, and knowing that we are already the righteousness we are tempted to labor at. See Isaiah 28:12-19. The refreshing is what we long for, and what we have been given. So why are you still trying to become righteous and calling yourself a sinner if you are in Christ? Instead of trying to become righteous, receive righteousness that was offered to you freely.
Well then, what is the work of God and what should we labor at? We labor at resting and the work of God is believing. The only true work of a saint should be believing in what Christ did for us. See John 6:29 and Hebrews 4:10. This is the only thing that pleases God is believing. See Hebrews 11:6 and Ephesians 5:10. Wake up to belief and stand Beloved!
