As a mother I am so glad today is Friday! Can I get an “Amen” from the Stay at Home Moms? Or, any Mom for that matter? This week seems to have been a long one for me. I think it is because I got behind on some things due to unforeseen circumstances and then dreaded trying to catch up. Dread is like dragging yourself through quicksand. The more you think about what you dread the deeper it pulls you in and threatens to keep you from moving on anywhere. If you think about wriggling you sink deeper. What are some things you have been dreading lately?
Last week I had been dreading cleaning out my closet in the master bedroom. A zillion shoes, hangers, pieces of clothes, purses, and bags all tangled up together in a large mess that prevented the sliding doors from shutting on either side. Finally, I had grown more tired of trying to get my church shoes out of there on a Saturday night than I dreaded cleaning it. So, I went to work. The next thing I had was a clean closet. My yellow lab then decided he was going to move in. Now he knows how to open the doors, and the shoes are spilling out on both sides. Big sigh! I give up on that one. At least the shoes are the only thing on the closet floor and I have a lint roller. I could be worse. He could be eating the shoes.
This week I was dreading an overdue assignment for English Composition II. Well last night I decided I was done dreading and wrote until 3 am. Today I still need to do the reference page and turn it in, but I feel great. No more associated dread because I have gotten over the initial tackling of the task and it is almost behind me.
Why do we do that to ourselves though? What did Jesus have to say about dread? Well, dread is fear and anxiety. Here are a few scriptures about both. Read them, meditate on them, and then tackle what you are so anxious about. Big or small, you will be glad you did Beloved! ❤ Mindy
